Your First Appointment Is a Conversation, Not a Commitment
One of the most common reasons patients delay seeking pain management care is not the pain itself—it’s the fear of what “seeing a pain specialist” means.
“Will I be pushed toward a procedure I’m not ready for? Will I be dismissed again? What exactly happens in that room?”
The first appointment at Brock Pain Medicine is an evaluation where nothing is started unless you’re ready. You come in, we learn about you and your pain, and we explain your options clearly. That’s it. Whether you decide to move forward with treatment is entirely up to you.

Before You Arrive
Do You Need a Referral?
Brock Pain Medicine is a specialty practice. Many patients arrive with a referral from their primary care physician or a surgical specialist.
If you are unsure whether you need one, contact our office, and we will help you figure out the right path based on your insurance and situation.

What to Bring
A list of your current medications and dosages
Any prior imaging (X-rays, MRI, CT scans) — the actual images if possible, not just the reports
A summary of prior treatments and providers you have seen for this pain
Your insurance card and a photo ID
Any paperwork or intake forms sent to you ahead of your appointment
What to Think About Before You Come
The more specific you can be about your pain, the more useful your first appointment will be. It helps to think through:
Where exactly your pain is located and whether it stays in one place or moves
How long you have had the pain and whether it started suddenly or came on gradually
What makes it better, and what makes it worse
How it affects your daily life — sleep, work, activities
What you have already tried and how well it worked
What Happens During Your First Appointment
“...Your first visit is both an evaluation and a get-to-know-you meeting. He does not push drugs like so many others... He instead tries to treat the source of the pain…

Medical History Review
The appointment begins with a thorough review of your pain history — when it started, how it has evolved, what you have already tried, and what has worked or not worked. This is not a cursory intake. Your history is the foundation of your evaluation, and it receives the time it deserves.
Physical Examination
The physician will perform a focused physical examination relevant to your reported pain. This may include a range of motion assessment, neurological testing, and specific maneuvers designed to reproduce or localize your pain. The examination findings are combined with your history and imaging to build a clinical picture.
Imaging and Records Review
If you have brought prior imaging, your physician will review it with you and explain what it shows in plain language. In some cases, additional imaging or diagnostic testing may be recommended at or after the first visit.
Diagnosis and Options Discussion
At the end of the appointment, your physician will explain what they believe is driving your pain, what treatment options are appropriate for your specific situation, and what you can realistically expect from each. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about any aspect of the proposed plan.
Nothing is done at the first visit beyond the evaluation itself. No procedures, no injections, no prescriptions are initiated unless you and your physician specifically discuss and agree on that during the appointment.
Who You Will Meet at Brock Pain Medicine
Your initial consultation is with one of our physicians — Dr. Lee Brock or Dr. Ronnie Stotts. All first appointments are physician-level evaluations. This is where the diagnosis is established, and the treatment direction is set.
Follow-up appointments may be with our physician extenders who carry out the ongoing care plan established by the physician. They are experienced, fully equipped to manage your care, and working directly under physician supervision. Many patients develop strong, lasting relationships with the full team.

Building Your Treatment Plan
Following the evaluation, your care team develops a treatment plan specific to your diagnosis and goals. You receive a clear explanation of what is recommended, in what order, and why. There is no obligation to begin immediately, and no pressure to agree to anything you are not ready for.
Follow-Up Schedule
We can schedule your follow-up in the office, or your care coordinator will contact you to schedule the appointment. If you have not heard from them within a week of your prior appointment, our office number is (469) 742-9950.
Prescriptions and Medications
If medications are part of your plan, prescriptions are signed electronically by the physician the afternoon following your appointment. Please allow until noon the following day before contacting the office about a prescription, and check with your pharmacy first. Refills on controlled substances are not issued prior to 28 days after the previous prescription.
The First Step Is Just a Phone Call
You do not need to know what is wrong with you before you call. You do not need a confirmed diagnosis or a complete medical history ready to recite. You need to describe your pain, and we will take it from there.
The evaluation appointment is the beginning of a process, not the end of one. And it starts with a conversation.
